Four University of Louisville Board Members Lose Their Positions, Following Governor Bevin's Cleanu

By

Four members of the University of Louisville Board of Trustees lost their positions amid Governor Matt Bevin's move to clear out the board of directors at the university.

Robert Hughes, the foundation's former chairman, along with three others lost their positions on Wednesday. They have been reported ousted due to foundation bylaws, which states that their positions are now reserved for the current University of Louisville trustees, WDRB News reported.

The reports have been confirmed, as the four former directors' names has since been omitted from the meeting materials list for scheduled meetings on Thursday.

The four ousted board members are the aforementioned Hughes, along with physical therapist, Larry Benz; investor, Jonathan Blue; and county attorney, Brucie Moore.

The board is comprised of 14 members in total, with University of Louisville president, James Ramsey, among its current members. The university's Board of Trustees oversee the operations at the university's nonprofit foundation, according to Inside Higher Ed.

An examination by the Auditor's Office has been set in the following weeks, aiming to explore operations of the foundation, as well as an overview among management.

The recent cleanup follows Gov. Bevin's move to abolish the University of Louisville's Board of Trustees, which was announced last Friday. The move can still be challenged in court, but the ousted directors has yet to make their move.

Ramsey has made his intentions to resign since then, but wishes to end his obligations to the foundation once a legally restructured board has taken place. The university president stated that he has no intentions to serve beyond the academic year of 2016-17.

Meanwhile, Andy Beshear, attorney general, has scheduled a news conference on Wednesday at 1 p.m. to discuss issues regarding the recent events that have plagued the university, according to Biz Journals.

Bevin had announced his intended replacements for the ousted members on Friday. The interim board members would be Bonita Black, a Harvard Law School graduate; Ulysses Bridgeman, a graduate of the University of Loiusville; and Dr. Ron Wright, whom of which also graduated from the university.
