NBA Rumors: David West, Ian Mahinmi to reunite with Frank Vogel in Orlando?

By

Frank Vogel who was recently named as the new head coach for the Orlando Magic could be joined by two familiar faces in Ian Mahinmi and David West for the next season of the NBA.

Vogel who was axed by an Indiana Pacers management after their early first round playoff exit against the Toronto Raptors was all ecstatic for his new role as the main man on the sidelines for the Florida basketball franchise, according ESPN.

"The future is bright for these guys," the former Pacers coach pointed it out during his brief introduction the press last Monday.

"In my mind, this team is ready to take the next step. As the process played out, it was obvious to me this was the perfect place for me to continue this journey. It also became clear to me that this is also a perfect place for my family," he added as he replaced Magic head coach Scott Skiles who filed for resignation.

This next step could be reeling in of more key players as the Magic's postseason hopes was hampered by an onslaught of player injuries, which doused their strong start for the 2015 season into a devastating 2-12 record win-loss card to finished the month of January.

The Magic should be more than motivated as the free agency class of 2016 has a lot to offer although prized marquee players like unrestricted free agent Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Andre Drummond of the Detroit Pistons could be a far catch in their list. There are still many players available especially ones which Vogel has long been at ease with, according to Hoops Hype.

David West who has suited up for a player option last year with the San Antonio Spurs in the West could be a possible addition to the Magic young roster as Evan Fournier, Aaron Gordon, Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton essentially need a veteran presence in and out of the locker room.

West averages 7.1 points per game along with 4.0 boards.  Another potential recognizable asset for Vogel could be his second big man during his Pacer heydays, Ian Mahinmi who is now an unrestricted free agent. The wide-bodied Frenchman has found his potential this season with the Pacers and for this could cash in along with West as a new television deal has skyrocketed the salary cap of the players.
