iWatch Release Date: Apple Planning to Unveil New Wearable Device on Sept. 9 Alongside iPhone 6
ByApple may be looking to bolster its rumored Sept. 9 event as the company is supposedly going to unveil the iWatch alongside the iPhone 6.
Re/Code first reported rumors of the Sept. 9 iPhone event and they have now learned that Apple will debut its iWatch at that time as well. While it makes sense to unveil them together, Re/Code reported in June that the iWatch was not due out until Oct.
Earlier this year, Apple unveiled iOS 8 and the Healthkit app that will come with it. With the ability to store health information, it seems like a natural fit for the iWatch, which will presumably be able to read a user's blood pressure and heart rate.
Asia Nikkei reported in June that Apple was confident in how the iWatch would sell, so they went into production looking to make about three to five million units a month. Not much is known of Apple's Sept. 9 event, but the company is expected to debut both the 4.7- and 5.5-inch iPhone 6. The smaller one is expected to hit the market sooner, however, since production of the larger one has hit a few more snags.
Apple has not confirmed anything, as they never do, though they should be sending out press invitations soon enough, like Monday or Tuesday.
The unveiling date is not to be taken as an indicator of a potential release date, as that is still unclear for pretty much all Apple's forthcoming devices. Since iPhones are usually released in mid-Sept. and on Fridays, the new handset could hit the market on Sept. 19 or 26.
However, the iWatch may not necessarily come out until Oct., or later. Unveiling a device does mean that Apple at least thinks it presentable and near ready for release.
