A radiologist must always strive to keep learning. Earning paid and free radiology CE credits make you more competent and keep you abreast of the latest information and changes within the profession. Continuing Education is also required in order to maintain your license.

There are plenty of radiology CME (Continuing Medical Education) courses out there. Which are the best to take? Here is a brief overview of radiologist education classes to consider.

Radiology CME Requirements

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) requires all Radiologic Technologists (RT) to earn radiology CE credits, just like any medical specialty.

ARRT requirements for RTs:

• Earn 24 Radiology CE credits every 2 years

• 1 credit equals at least 50 minutes of educational activity

• Courses can be taken in-person, online, via webinars or simulcasts, or using written materials

No matter the format, the ARRT and/or state accreditation/license board must recognize the courses.

You can choose from a variety of courses, although you should take courses that most closely align with your particular specialty. There are also general courses that benefit anyone in the radiology field.

Some states also have their own CME requirements.

For instance, Texas requires Radiologic Technologists to obtain 24 CE credits. However, 12 of them must focus on "ionizing radiation". 3 credits have to be obtained through live instruction.

California requires RT's to take 24 CE credits courses, with subjects related to the application of "X-ray and the human body". Accepted courses can include X-ray administration, management, pathology, diagnosis, and quality control/safety.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging - Covers the fundamentals of MRI techniques for steady-state and transient-state imaging.

Understanding Anatomy & Physiology - Course provides a deeper understanding of body parts, functions, and interactions.

Computed Tomography (4th Edition) - The latest advances in volume CT scanning, CT fluoroscopy, multi-slice spiral/helical CT, and multi-slice applications.

Quality Management in the Imaging Sciences - Information for technologists, managers, and practitioners regarding quality management, assurance, and quality control in imaging departments.
