Millennials, more than any other generation, are into Italian food and the reason may be surprising. Most of them opt to have Italian food at any given time because these dishes look better on social media.

A study including 2,000 adults found that more than three-fourths of the participants between the ages of 22 to 35 describe Italian food as their favorite cuisine. In a group of participants 55 and older, only 42% picked Italian as their favorite.

And while 63% of the participants said that they love Italian dishes because they taste so good, one in every ten participants admitted that they love Italian food because they are Instagram-worthy.

One in every 20 participants also revealed that they love Italian food because they are easy to cook for family and friends. It was also revealed that such dishes usually make a good impression on the people they cook for. On the other hand, 15% of the survey responents said that they love Italian simply because they don't need to spend much to prepare it. Apparently, Italian can be made to look luxurious without spending much.

The study also revealed that millennials eat Italian dishes 11 times a month, which means they eat it at least twice a week. While other participants eat Mediterranean dishes just five times in a month.

Neil Brown of Napolina said that consumers today are more experimental than the generations before. They are not afraid to try new dishes, alternatives to what they're used to. He emphasized that this character allows people to explore and become more healthy

Italian food is versatile that it suits a range of lifestyle -- from that college student in that small apartment or a young professional trying to build a career. There is no wonder why Italian cuisine found its resurgence in younger consumers.

Social media has also inspired many young, college students to try cooking. Luckily, pasta dishes are so easy to make. They can mix and match ingredients and come up with a new dish every time. This is why most college students find love in Italian food. They can be healthy, easy-to-make, and delicious all at the same time.

The multi-generational study discovered that millennials think pizza is the most appealing among all Italian dishes, especially when it means posting for social media. It is then followed by lasagna, bruschetta, and spaghetti Bolognese. Prawn linguine, Calzone, and pesto pasta also made it to the list of the most social media-friendly dishes.

On average, 45% of those who cook Italian food at home use social media for inspiration. After all, an average millennial posts Italian food at least three times in one month.

Although pizza, has found a new home in the hearts of Instagram-savvy millennials, many pizza toppings are no longer a favorite. Pineapple, ham, and pepperoni are reportedly less popular than before. Researchers believe this is because people are trying to make healthier choices by wanting less on their dishes.

Instead, new flavors emerged in popularity like sundried tomatoes, barbeque chicken, and mozzarella cheese. Pasta remains to be a favorite with exciting new flavors for every millennial. Everything Italian, however, remain Instagrammable.
