LG will finally be updating the operating system for the LG V10 and LG G4 smartphones to the Android 7.0 Nougat. The South Korean's sudden change of heart is caused by a "consumer rebellion" according to reports.

Earlier, LG did not enlist the LG V10 and LG G4 phones on its roster of devices receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat. The said devices are released with the Android Lollipop firmware, which was then updated to the Android Marshmallow OS. However, LG did not mention any further updates for the V10 and G4 once the Nougat build was released, despite the devices' being less than two years old.

In defense to the lack of Nougat update, LG initially said the hardware of the two devices would create compatibility problems with the latest Google firmware.

"We decided not to provide Android 7.0 (7.0 & 7.1) update for G4 and V10. As a result of internal compatibility with the new Android system, it was concluded that it is difficult to maintain optimized performance," the company stated.

According Android Authority, LG's plan to discontinue its software update for the said phones has created a rancor on many consumers. But this so called "consumer rebellion" then changed LG's position of leaving the Nougat build for V10 and G4.

According to a recent report by Korean news agency Yonhap, the decision was announced because of several consumer complaints, highlighting the cancellation of future updates as "an infringement on their rights to choose," Phone Arena reported.

"It depends on a user's decision over whether to update their devices, but the decision came as part of our efforts to maximize customer satisfaction by offering more options to them," a company official said.

Now, LG plans to offer the upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat for the V10 in the second half of this year and for the G4 in the third quarter. However, the schedule currently applies to phones sold in South Korea, while consumers outside markets should wait for a separate announcement for the Nougat schedule.

The G4, which debuted in April 2015, underwent software update twice. The V10 was released in October the same year and went for two OS updates.
