GPU powerhouse AMD has just teased its upcoming AMD Vega GPU in a preview event for the upcoming Bethesda-developed first-person shooter game "Prey." AMD made the tease this week in a press conference. Press members have been given a great opportunity to take the first-hand experience of the preview version of Bethesda's upcoming first-person shooter game.

AMD Team Up With Bethesda And Arkane Studios

First revealed at 2016 E3 event, "Prey" is an upcoming first-person shooter with role-playing game elements and strong narrative that has been developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The first-person shooter game will take place in an alternate timeline where United States President John F. Kennedy survives the assassination attempt in 1963, Wired reported.

Coincidentally, "Prey" is scheduled for release on May 5, 2017, just in time for the AMD Vega launch, which also set on May of this year. This clearly explains why AMD decided to work with Arkane Studios and Bethesda on the upcoming product launch.

There is a performance advantage for the chip company in working with a high profile gaming title like Prey. Some analysts said that the works can help the GPU stalwart in distinguishing itself from the competition and also, getting the chance to improve its competitive stakes.

The timing could be great both companies. Bethesda will get the massive exposure for the upcoming Prey, while AMD will get the marketing leverage and the crowd's increasingly important feedbacks, which crucial to the company's bid for supremacy in the hotly contested GPU market.

Fortunately, AMD gets all the help needed to fend off incoming threats. The first-person shooter game is reportedly optimized for the new breed of AMD's graphics card, the AMD Vega. The AMD on Prey demo was also reportedly running on an unreleased Vega GPU.

According to Wccftech, which got the full details of the AMD story, the brand new AMD Vega GPU is set to power the company's next breed of high-end Radeon graphics cards. It's AMD's latest 14nm graphics architecture and perhaps the fastest the company has ever built.

The AMD Vega was primarily designed to compete closely with a major high-end GPU product in the market, the cerebral assassin NVIDIA GTX 1080. The technology represents the most significant leap forward for the Sunnyvale-based GPU company in a decade.

AMD Vega Launch Set On May

Early reports suggest that AMD plans to release the first of the Vega lineup this coming May. In fact, a highly reliable source has revealed to the tech website Wccftech that the company has communicated its intent to start the roll-out of AMD Vega in the second quarter of this year, which spans April to June of this year.

Additionally, AMD CEO Lisa Su also made an official announcement that AMD Vega will be released sometime in the second quarter of 2017, thus setting the month as the official launch date for Vega.

As mentioned earlier by Wccftech, the massive Vega campaign will start with the introduction first of the company's new Radeon 500 series flagship, the Vega 10 GPU. This will be quickly followed by the mid-range AMD Vega 11.
