The power generation industry is about to get a big lift this week. Huawei, the Chinese networking and telecom equipment maker, is teaming up with Oracle, the world's largest enterprise software provider. The two companies are collaborating on works for a smarter energy grid.

Oracle Joins Huawei In IoT Space

According to Light Reading, Huawei and Oracle have signed a Power IoT Ecosystem partnership memorandum of understanding (MOU), which will see continued cooperation around the sale of the Huawei Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) solution and the Oracle Utilities software. The Oracle Utility software will include Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management (MDM), Oracle Utilities Smart Grid Gateway (SGG) and other related Oracle Utilities products.

The partnership between the enterprise software company and the Chinese telecom equipment maker will enable a robust end-to-end AMI solution to help power companies improved their customer experience and achieve operational efficiency.

The Chinese giant provides a powerful AMI solution that can manage smart meters, communications networks and head end systems, while Oracle will provide the Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management to collect raw data from smart meters and then consolidates them into a single consolidation system for data analysis and finally, customer billing.

Aside from Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management, the software company will also provide its Oracle Utilities Smart Grid Gateway to allow users to manage the endpoint meters. This Smart Grid software reportedly handles most AMI processes which include the remote connect/disconnect processing and also the checking the meter status.

In addition to the Oracle Utilities Meter Data Management (MDM) and Smart Grid software, Oracle is also providing additional software to handle the data collection and the customer system integration. This includes Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing (CC&B).

Benefit Of The Power IoT Partnership

According to CBR Online, the benefits of this huge partnership between the two big companies are expected to save on operational costs, achieving smart meter monitoring, more accurate customer billing, and operational efficiency.

Shenzhen-based Huawei is already a Platinum member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork and the latest partnership will just allow the two companies to work even closer in delivering smart grid solutions.
