Falcons' Dave Clawson has accepted to the position of head football coach at Wake Forest University.

Clawson will replace Jim Grobe as the 32^nd head football coach, who led the Demon Deacons for 13 seasons and posted a 77-82 record. This has made him the most successful trainer in program history.

Wake Forest has gone 23-38 over the last five seasons with 14 victories in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Last season, the team posted 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the ACC.

The 46-year-old coach leaves Bowling Green after serving as the head football coach for five years with a 31-31 overall record. Last year, Falcons posted a 10-3 record and won the Mid-American Conference's East Division title with a 7-1 mark, their first since 1992.

Ron Wellman, WFU Athletics Director, said that the new coach not only had to have experience at a private school but also the ability to recognize and accept the principles and standards of a private school.

"Just because someone has experience at a private school does not necessarily mean they support everything that is different about private schools - compared to a public institution,'' Wellman said. "You just need to have someone who not only understands the difference but supports what the differences might be,'' Times Dispatch reports.

Prior to Falcons, Clawson served four years at the University of Richmond and five seasons as head coach at Fordham. A native of Youngstown, New York, Clawson began his coaching profession after graduating in 1989. During his 14-year coaching tenure, he posted an overall record of 89-80.
