Taking nearly six years, George R. R. Martin confirms that "The Winds of Winter" will finally come out this year.

According to Martin, the sixth installment of "A Song of Ice and Fire" series "The Winds of Winter" is not done yet, he has made considerable progress. The statement comes in response to a complaint the author got regarding the wide time gap between the novels, he responded by explaining he hopes to release the next installment this year, according to Time.

Martin confirmed the release of "The Winds of Winter" would not be out before of HBO's "Game of Thrones" Season 6. He says no one is more disappointed than he is. The upcoming "Game of Thrones" Season 7 was likewise delayed this year due to the fact that production wanted bleaker weather for the shoot. If "The Winds of Winter" is indeed coming this year, the release might just coincide with the premiere airing of "Game of Thrones" Season 7.

However, not all are optimistic with Martin's pronouncement citing "we've been here before," according to Huffington Post. Additionally, "The Winds of Winter" was supposed to be released last 2016, but that obviously did not happen, stated the report.

Moreover, "The Winds of Winter" is not the last book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, a seventh book, "A Dream of Spring," is also expected and seemingly the end book of the entire series. With the sixth book taking six years (not done yet) to hopefully finish, bookworms are beginning to wonder, how many more years it will take for "A Dream of Spring" makes it to bookshelves.

Fans seemed to be burned many times with promises of the release of "The Winds of Winter." Many are left in the cold and no longer allowing themselves to be highly optimistic for its eventual release. From here on out, many are saying they will just have to contend with keeping a "wait and see" attitude.

Meanwhile, HBO's "Game of Thrones" Season 7 will be coming to TV screens in the summer of 2017.
