Samsung will be the very first company to adopt the Quantum Dot Technology in their QLED TV that it unveiled at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas.

What is Quantum Dot Technology?

Quantum Dots are nanometer sized semiconductor particles. Many quantum dots emit light in specific frequencies. Once light is applied on them, the frequencies can be tuned by changing the dot's size, shape and material allowing for different applications. With such capabilities, Samsung decided to use the dots and came up with the idea of QLED TV to enhance picture quality.

Samsung's QLED TV will provide the most true-to-life picture on screen said president of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, HyunSuk Kim. The company has been successful in solving inconsistencies in consumer viewing experience redefining the fundamental value of TV, he added, ZD Net reported.

QLED vs OLED

The QLED is able to produce more accurate picture color due to its ability to emit its own light. Users can expect better viewing experience with its brighter screen, better viewing angles and black appears to be deeper, Mirror reported. The OLED used to be the only technology able to produce absolute blacks and whites in a pixel basis. Samsung did not reveal how much did it cost them to produce a QLED TV but since the quantum dot relies on cheaper LCD backlights unlike the OLED that needs to be individually lit, QLED TV is believed to be cheaper.

Samsung QLED TVs have various designs for an unusual viewing experience. Like the usual TV, it can be mounted in the wall or make it stand in the table with the table-top stand with modern styling provided by Samsung. If there are any plans to take the TV to the center stage of the room, an easel-style stand can be used, according to Digital Trends.

The QLED technology is very new so we'll have to wait for the release too see how will it take viewers to a next level of viewing experience.
