The most common and widely held belief that the brain is the center of all consciousness might not be accurate at all. That's because the growing number of evidence has shown that the heart also plays a significant role in the conscious process.

Neurocardiology is an emerging field in medicine that has been around over the last decade. Its main focus is on how the brain and the heart communicate through the nervous system.

Recent research in this field shows that the heart has its own 'brain' - that the heart also has a center which receives and carries information. The 'heart brain' as doctors loosely refer to it, enables the heart to learn, remember, and make decisions apart from the cerebral cortex. Further research shows that the heart can also influence the brain by continuously sending signals related to perception, cognition, and emotions.

Scientists at the Institute of HeartMath gave an example saying that when the heart feels positive emotions like happiness, love, or appreciation, the heart beats a certain message. According to them, the heart produces the largest electromagnetic field in the body, they were alsoi able to get extensive data from it.

According to Dr. Rolin McCratey, the director of the Institute, the electromagnetic field holds the emotional information sent out by the heart. If we change how we feel or our emotions, we also change the code inside that electromagnetic field; thus, affecting the people around us.

This explains why some people still find inner peace and happiness within themselves despite the troubles and problems they face. Aside from that, the scientists also found that both the heart and the brain have intuition. They both receive and respond to certain events before they happen. What's more surprising, according to the scientists, is that the heart seemed to receive this information first even before the brain does.
