The "Alien: Covenant" unleashed a horrifying first trailer over Christmas weekend featuring facehuggers and creepy xenomorphs from the original "Alien" movie. The trailer reveals interesting plot twists that support a storyline that stands as a prequel to 1979's "Alien," but a sequel to 2012's "Prometheus."

Last Saturday, Dec. 24, Twentieth Century Fox unleash a gory and scream-worthy first trailer for the "Alien: Covenant." The trailer revealed a glimpse of the tentacled facehuggers and creepy xenomorphs, which were the main antagonists in the original "Alien" movie.

"Alien: Covenant" Plot Details

The "Alien: Covenant" is about a crew of the Covenant discovering an idyllic planet, which was inhabited by a synthetic android played by Michael Fassbender, who is the lone survivor of the Prometheus expedition. The crew of colonists soon discovered that the planet is home to a parasitic extraterrestrial species that are seeking for human hosts, similar to the monsters in the first Sigourney Weaver "Alien" movie since the "Alien: Covenant" is supposedly a prequel, happening 30 years earlier.

"Alien: Covenant" First Trailer Glimpses

The first trailer of the "Alien: Covenant" reveals a miniscule gooey glob of ink about to enter a man's ear passage and a quarantined man with a parasite about to burst out of his spine. These are just a few of the scream-worthy images that were revealed by director Scott Ridley, who often practices viral campaigns so fans can expect more teaser clips in the coming days according to Cinema Blend.

"Alien: Covenant" Cast Members

Fassbender and Noomi Rapace (Dr, Elizabeth Shaw) reprised their roles in the "Prometheus" sequel, the "Alien: Covenant" movie, joined by Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride and Guy Pearce with James Franco doing a short role according to Variety. Fassbender will play the redesigned synthetic android Walter, but will also reveal his former "Prometheus" persona, David.

"Alien: Covenant" Release Date

"Alien: Covenant" will hit the theaters on May 19, 2017, three months earlier from its scheduled August release. Fox is confident on Ridley's take on the growing Alien franchise and hopes that the new movie will top "Prometheus" impressive debut at $51 million to $403 million dollars worldwide, the most successful installment to date.
