Rebecca Elaine Greene, a 22-year-old student at the University of Georgia (UGA) died in mysterious circumstances. Athens-Clarke County police authorities found her body in a creek on The Plaza in west Athens. The location was not far from where the student lived with her boyfriend on Indale Avenue.

Greene's boyfriend reported her missing on Tuesday's morning after she failed to return home from campus the previous day. According to the police officials, he had last spoken with Greene at about 5:30 p.m. Monday when she was believed to be at UGA's science library. He was supposed to pick her up, but later Greene texted saying that she would either take a bus or walk home, Savannah Now reports.

When Greene didn't return home by 11:25 p.m., he tried contacting her through calls and messages, but received no response from her.

According to the missing person's report, Greene of Brunswick, Georgia, was a chemistry major and philosophy minor at UGA and previously studied at Coastal Georgia Community College and Kennesaw State University. She worked at the Earth Fare organic foods market on South Lumpkin Street.

An autopsy showed no signs of foul play in the death of Greene.

"It was not a homicide," GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "No one else caused her death."

"An autopsy was completed by the medical examiner and the preliminary results indicate that it was not a homicide, no foul play was involved, and no one else had a role in her death. Final results are pending further testing," Athens Clarke police said in a statement.

The campus community is saddened with the sudden news of Greene's death.

"She was the kind of giving person that was always willing and able to place someone else's needs above her own. It is so difficult to find these qualities these days... She will be missed," Angela Gao, friend of Greene, said in a twitter post.
