Pantone has revealed the color of the year for 2017. It's back to basics as the color of nature is expected to be seen a lot in the coming months.

The New York Times reported that the Pantone Color Institute, which prides itself as the "global color authority," has revealed that the color green will be prevalent next year. It's not just any shade of green, though. The color of the year 2017 is named "greenery."

Pantone 15-0343 is described as a "yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring." It's more like a pastel green, similar to matcha.

"We know what kind of world we are living in: one that is very stressful and very tense," Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute," said. "This is the color of hopefulness, and of our connection to nature."

"It speaks to what we call the 're' words: regenerate, refresh, revitalize, renew. Every spring we enter a new cycle and new shoots come from the ground. It is something life affirming to look forward to."

According to Quartz, the bright, natural color was chosen by Pantone to counter the dark emotions evoked by the unclear political climate around the world. Eiseman added that the color provides everyone the hope that we so yearn for in the middle of the current complicated social and political landscape.

It was also noted that this particular shade of green may also be a reflection of the incorporation of biophilia in office design. One study showed that there is a 6 percent increase in productivity as well as 15 percent boost of employee creativity and well-being when natural elements such as greenery and sunlight fill work spaces.

This can be a great help for students as well. They can decorate their dorm rooms with splashes of green or go all out.

Philly noted that the color of the year 2017 may help heal a divided America. This comes after the nation is still currently going through confusion over what to expect in the future under the presidency of Donald Trump.

There has been an increase in hostile acts against minority students in campuses across the nation. Hopefully, the color of the year can help the entire country relax and look forward to 2017 with renewed positivity.
