During an interview, your ultimate goal is to convince the hiring manager why you should be considered above everyone else and why you are the ideal person for the job, and that's not an easy thing to do. Interviews are always stressful, and even if the recruiters appear to be very friendly, remember not to fall into the trap and just open up about everything you're not supposed to.

It is important for you to be very careful for a hiring manager not to catch a red flag or two. In order to help you with that, here are some of the things you need to steer clear of.

• "I am excited for the job because it is near my house". By saying this, you are only giving your employer a great reason to lower your salary because you live near the office, so don't say this.
• "I plan to go to grad school full time for a few years". Having these plans are great but you don't need to mention them during your interview, it will only give your hiring manager the impression you are not staying with the company for good.
• "My wife just got a fantastic job!". Mentioning that you are in a favorable financial situation may only give your hiring manager a reason to give you a lower salary offer than you deserve.
• "Of all the jobs I was offered, this is the one that I really want". Saying this will only give your employer an idea that you can just accept a lower salary so that you can end your job search, and because of the fact that you sound like you are dying to get this one job in particular above all else. It's enough to say you are interested for the job.
