Intelligence does not necessarily translate to perfection. No matter how smart or how high the IQ of a person is, they can still lose and fail. And then people would begin to question why.

Here are some things you might need to consider so you don't end up losing when the only thing you want is to win:

Open your ears and learn how to listen. Most of the time, you are preoccupied with your own biases and that's what keeps you from hearing what others would have to say. Listen to both people you agree and disagree with.

Tell the truth. People would always appreciate honesty. At all cost. It will not make you less of a person if you tell the truth, would it?

Be humble enough to admit your mistakes. And admission becomes more meaningful if you stop your justification and admit that what you did is plainly wrong, and that it's wrong because the other person thinks it is. It will only put your sorry to waste.

Give credit where it is due. Acknowledge the good things and the positive points of others while you also try to make them see the good side of what you suggest.

Present your ideas in a larger and better perspective. You should be able to let people see how far you can go to extend help to them and the end result you are trying to achieve. They should also be able to see how they can benefit from the situation and how you are going to provide them support.

Establish connections. This is one of the most important traits of being a leader. People need someone who knows and comprehends their needs as human beings and not just your subordinates. Everybody wants to be listened to, that's how you'll gain their trust.
