The Middle East has always been a center of topic for international journalists. And Robin Wright wants to share her experience as a female journalist to 400 people in the Michigan Union Ballroom.

Aside from being a renowned journalist, she is also an author. Her success in her career has led her to several ventures and issues around the world. Now she focuses on the Middle East during one of her lectures with the Margaret Waterman Alumnae Group's Town Hall Lecture Series. The Series raises scholarship for the University of Michigan students.

Carolyn Tyson, president of the Grooup says taht they chose her as a speaker not only because of her successful career and being an alumnus of the U of M, but also because she has so much information to share.

This year, Wright discusses her career in journalism as well as her history as a University of Michigan alumnus, states Michigan Daily. She starts by saying that she has published works in The New York Times Magazine and Time Magazine, too. She has traveled to more than 140 countries to report on issues that matter.

But it is her experience in the Middle East that stands out. The international conflicts that the Middle East faces include international conflicts in countries like Libya, Iraq and Syria. "I'm very interested in wars and conflict," she said. She wants it to resolve into peace one day. She explains that it is conflict that gets you closer to understand how to make peace.

In addition to her career, she emphasizes that there is a lack of women in journalism today. Using her experience in Africa, she was the only female journalist present. However, she noted that success in journalism is not linked to gender so much as a willingness to tell the stories of other people.

"I think women tend to be better at this (telling stories)," says Wright. She ends her talk by saying that diplomacy is becoming more important today than ever to address instability and conflict.
