Lots of people dream about working at SpaceX, Elon Musk's space company. For those who actually want to pursue their dreams, the company has an internship program for 2017.

SpaceX needs more people than ever now that Elon Musk has revealed his plans for a Mars landing within 10 years. The company's CEO and founder has unveiled the Interplanetary Transport System (ITS) and claimed that this plan can result to a city on Mars with 1 million people or more.

"The first journey will be very dangerous, and the risk of fatality will be very high," he said at the International Astronautical Congress. "Are you prepared to die? Then you are a candidate for going."

According to SpaceX's official website, the company is currently looking for talented individuals for its Internship/Co-Op Program for its Los Angeles headquarters. Interns will get the chance to be involved in the design, development, testing and manufacturing of spaceflight hardware.

"Here at SpaceX, you will obtain invaluable hands-on technical experience that you can't learn in a classroom," the company wrote. "Our engineers will help you to roll up your sleeves and apply text book theory and lab experience to creating solutions for real aerospace challenges. You will gain practical experience by participating in actual space hardware development projects."

The groups looking for interns are: Avionics (for both Electronics and Software), Dynamics, Launch Operations, Manufacturing/Operations, Propulsion (Engines), Structures, Enterprise Information Systems as well as the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) group. It was noted that there may be opportunities available in other areas as well.

The basic qualification is that interns must be currently enrolled at a four-year university or college or must have completed a degree no more than six months ago. Preferred qualifications are a GPA of 3.5 or higher and hands-on experience on a project team or through a previous internship. Applicant should also be a U.S. citizen and a lawful resident of the country.
