Much to Samsung's relief, it looks like everyone's focus is finally deviating from the controversy plagued Galaxy Note 7 to the company's next smartphone, the Galaxy S8.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Speculations, Rumors & Leaks

Rumors centering on Galaxy S8 continue to trickle in, and a recent specs leak from the Chinese social media platform Weibo (via iDigitalTimes) hint that the imminent flagship is likely to boast an array of awe-inspiring features including a 5.2-inch 4K resolution display, a 30MP primary camera, a 9MP front snapper, 64GB and 128GB internal storage options and a robust 4,200mAh battery. The leak also suggests that the Galaxy S8 may sport an iris scanner, a fingerprint sensor, a built-in projector and wireless charging.

While this may not be enough to confirm any details about the Galaxy S8, we can still delve into the validity of rumors associated with the purported smartphone. Although a 30MP camera may sound quite enticing that may actually not be the case. Despite fewer megapixels, the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy S7 are considered among the top mobile cameras currently available in the market.

Samsung Galaxy S8 - Camera

Both, the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy S7 come with a 12MP primary camera; however, the older devices including Galaxy Note 5 sported a 30MP camera. Samsung has recently switched its focus from beefing up its lenses with megapixels to sharpening the quality of its cameras with features including larger apertures.

Samsung Galaxy S8 - Storage

The speculated storage upgrades for the Galaxy S8 seems quite possible, especially considering Samsung announced the 64GB of internal storage option as its new base standard with the Galaxy Note 7. Besides, since Apple announced a mammoth 256GB iPhone 7, it's likely that Samsung may consider another radical storage upgrade.

Samsung Galaxy S8 - Battery

If Samsung's recent battery related disasters are anything to go by, a robust 4,200mAh battery seems quite unrealistic. While the Galaxy S7 comes with a 3,600mAh battery, the Galaxy Note 7 packs a 3,500mAh cell. Besides, the Galaxy S8 doesn't really seem to have a feature that would require the handset to draw power from such a powerful battery.

Samsung Galaxy S8 - Display

Rampant rumors have long hinted that the Galaxy S8 may come with a 4K display. The device is said to be compatible with Google Daydream VR project, which calls for a high-resolution display for VR compatibility through the protocol.

Other Leaks & Speculations

Another recently surfaced leak via SamMobile suggest that the Galaxy S8 is likely to pack an Exynos 8895 SoC with ARM's newfangled Mali-G71 mobile GPU (Graphics Processing Unit).

Built using the company's latest Bifrost architecture, the 16nm graphics chip is clocked at 850 MHz and provides up to 20% enhanced energy efficiency, a considerable 40% enhanced performance density and 20% external memory bandwidth saving as compared to the Mali-T880 GPU used in the Galaxy S7.

Furthermore, if rumors proved to be true, Samsung will announce a slate-sized smartphone and a phablet in early 2017.
