Nowadays, job hunting can be tough. There are a lot of competition and few vacancies. Moreover, those few vacancies actually have work experience as a requirement for the role.

According to CNBC, though, the current job market is the best one in recent years. Employers are said to be expecting to hire about 5 percent more people from this year's graduates, as per the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

It was noted, however, that a lot of employers "front load" their recruiting. This means that they already sent offers last fall to secure hires who graduated last May. For those who are still looking for work, the publication shared five tips to help with your job hunt.

1. Visit your school's career services.

Contact your school's career placement department. Career counselors can also help you land the job that you want by assisting you with creating your resume, polishing your online image and be a sounding board.

2. Gather referrals.

Ask your family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances if they know of any job vacancies that would be perfect for you. Stay connected with your batch mates as well. Remember, networking a great tool in helping you succeed in the modern workplace.

3. Use your spare time wisely.

Graduates can use their spare time wisely by getting additional certification for free. You can study for the CPA exam or take a securities licensing test if you are aiming for a career in finance. These certifications will make you a more attractive candidate.

4. Get your foot in the door.

Experts believe that fresh college graduates should consider a temporary position or internship if they still don't have a permanent job yet. This can help you get your foot in the door as well as continue to build your network and skills.

5. Work on your soft skills.

Employers are not only looking for employees who can do the technical stuff. They also want soft skills from their workers. Fresh graduates can emphasize on their interpersonal and communication skills to become a more attractive job candidate.
