For a lot of freshmen, college would mean a new journey and a fresh start. You get to meet a lot of people and get to know yourself on a deeper level as well.

Dating can be tough, whether you are new on campus or you've been navigating the scene for a couple of years. That's why Bustle shared seven dating tips that it got from experts - to help you get through college.

1. Know what you are willing to take...

Figure out what you are comfortable with and stick to that. While there are people who are daring and adventurous, if you feel that it's not for you, you can always refuse. It's better to wait for people who respect your boundaries and needs.

2. ...But don't be afraid to explore.

Sometimes, in order to know what you like or don't like, you must try things out first. It may take a bit of a trial and error before you truly know who you are.

3. There are other ways to meet people other than at parties or bars.

While parties and bars are great ways to expand your social circle, joining campus events and clubs are also great for finding people who have the same interests as you. Branching out to other areas of interest is good, too.

4. Have fun once in a while.

Yes, it's important to be responsible about your education and exams. However, it should not stop you from enjoying your college life. "College is a great time to test the waters when it comes to relationships and intimacy," Neely Steinberg, founder of The Love TREP, said. "You really discover yourself through interactions and dynamics with other human beings."

5. Drink responsibly.

Social drinking is acceptable and can even help you develop connections with the people around you. Know your limits, though, as being drunk will instead make things awkward for you.

6. There's nothing wrong with being single.

There's more to life than being in a relationship. Enjoy your singlehood. This is the best time for you to get to know yourself better.

7. It's okay to feel a bit insecure sometimes.

Don't judge yourself for not having everything figured out. It's best to know what makes you nervous about dating so that you can do something about it.
