Sony unveiled the Xperia X series with a few different screen sizes earlier this year. Surprisingly, none of the devices were "compact" variants like the company has offered for the last few years. On Thursday, August 25, tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks) took to his Twitter to share render of the alleged Xperia X Compact.

The device looked legit and rumors were rampant that Sony's own website might have leaked this device and the Xperia XZ, Android Police reported.

The company's Czech website lists the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact under its photography category. The Xperia Z5 Compact was cited as one of the best options in the smaller side of flagships, considering that this space has hardly seen any competition recently.

Although other phone manufacturer do put out flagships, but none of them go after the smaller screen size, which gives the compact lineup some good footing. Regarding the Xperia X Compact, the leaked image reveals that the handset does not feature a sizeable chin at the bottom. But on the bright side, there seems to be a speaker on the bottom chin, in addition to one on the top.

The button situated on the side of the device may appear a little confusing; nevertheless they are at par with the Xperia Z5 Compact. The bottom button is the camera shutter, the longer button is the volume rocker and the power button which reportedly housed the fingerprint sensor may not be immediately visible.

Amid the excitement centering on the recently surfaced render of the Sony Xperia X Compact, another report from tipster @Ricciolo1 has surfaced hinting that Sony will be releasing Xperia XR (aka XZ) and the Xperia X Compact at IFA's Sony presentation scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 1, GSM Arena reported.

Techtastic even outlined the alleged specs of Xperia X Compact and the Xperia XR. Furthermore, the tweet indicates that Sony will be launching Style Covers on that day, and adds that "they're not alone." The last comments seem to ascertain the arrival of the new phones on the same day. The handsets are expected to debut during the manufacturer's IFA event.

The Xperia XR has already surfaced online in a post not too long ago with an alleged model number of "F8331." If rumors doing rounds proved to be true, the device will either be called the Xperia 'XR' or the 'XZ'. It will sport a 5.2 inch screen, and come with 4GB of RAM, a 23 MP rear camera with a dual-LED flash, laser-assisted focusing and a 13 MP front shooter for selfie addicts.

As far as the Xperia X Compact is concerned, rumors doing rounds hint that it features a 4.6 inch screen and is powered by 2700mAh battery. The camera specs have not yet been speculated; however both the Xperia X Compact and Xperia XR are rumored to pack a Snapdragon 820 CPU, coupled with 4GB of RAM. Lastly, both purported smartphones are said to feature USB-C ports.

These are mere speculations and until Sony either confirms or debunks these rumors, readers are advised to take these rumors with a grain of salt.
