Several Microsoft Surface Pro 3 owners have reported issues charging their devices' batteries and most of the issues seem to be linked to devices that pack SIMPLO batteries.

Both SIMPLO and LG manufactured batteries for Microsoft's line of Surface Pro 3 devices, however it looks like the SIMPLO-made units are plagued with capacity issues. Reports of Surface Pro 3 battery drain were making rounds since May, and some users now even claim their devices last up to only an hour despite fully charging it.

The company is aware of several customers facing issues with their Surface Pro 3 batteries in which the system seems to report lower battery capacity than anticipated, a Microsoft spokesperson noted in a statement to TheVerge.

Microsoft is working quickly in order to figure out the root cause, Microsoft spokesperson added.

In a bid to address this concern, the Redmond-based tech giant rolled out a firmware update for its hybrid Surface Pro 3 on Thursday. The last update for the product was released in April.

The recently-rolled out firmware not only offers improvements to battery life during sleep mode, but also enhances the keyboard's stability based on the change log on the company's website.

According to Microsoft, the Surface Pro 3 firmware update also boosts system sleep and hibernation behavior when battery is low and offers improved fingerprint touch stability while coming out of sleep. The recently rolled-out update is also expected to upgrade the setting driver's stability for Surface Pen.

Earlier this year, Microsoft released Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 together in India for Rs. 73,990 ($1,100) and Rs. 89,990 ($1,338) respectively.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 features a 12-inch screen coupled with 2160x1440 pixels. The product packs Intel's Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processor configurations, and boasts 64 GB of inbuilt storage which can be further expanded via microSD card. The buoyant laptop-tablet hybrid weighs just 800 grams, making the easily portable product an apt choice for students and businessmen alike who are always on the move, NDTV Gadgets reported.

Regrettably, the Surface Pro 3 was first launched in 2014, which imply several affected devices are already out of warranty by now.
