In its Monday announcement, Boston College pronounced Troy Flutie's suspension from the football team after police arrested him over drunken driving charge.

Coach Steve Addazio suspended Flutie from the football team due pending further investigation. The nephew of former BC star and 1984 Heisman Trophy Winner Doug Flutie faces possibilities of added University sanctions until the outcome of the court proceedings, BC athletic department said in a statement handed out to Boston Herald.

Flutie will be back in court on June 20. Prior to the incident, the police report said Troy Flutie, 20, of 29 Pine St., Natick, failed to realize that he had crashed his car into a limit Saturday morning, BH reported. He then denied to a police officer that he had been drunk where he lost his driver's license after declining to take a Breathalyzer test.

According to BH, Flutie said that he had not been drinking before the 1:05 am crash on Fisher Street. However Natick Police filed a report in Natick District Court on Monday saying that his breath is of alcohol stench and also found a quarter-filled can of Budweiser in his Volkswagen Passat.

When asked, Flutie seemed to be "unaware of his surroundings" and did not realize his involvement to the incident. He was also very shaky on his feet as he bent off to his right and walked in the middle of the road. Even though Flutie agreed to perform various field sobriety exams, he failed them all. He earlier refused to take a Breathalyzer at the police station. His driver's license has been automatically suspended for 180 days upon the refusal, BH report added.

Police charged Flutie with possession of an open container of liquor while driving, operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor and being a person younger than 21 in possession of liquor. The police also cited him with a marked lanes violation.
