University of Alabama's assistant coach Bo Davis submitted his resignation this week. He was being investigated by the university and inquired by the NCAA for allegations about possible recruiting violations.

Following the contrversy, Davis was believed to either voluntarily resign or get sacked, Tuscaloosca News reported. The university's head coach, Nick Saban confirmed Davis' resignation in a statement. It is not yet clear what possible recruiting violations Davis broke when he was with the team.

Saban had great praises for Davis' performance in the Alabama Crimson Tide team and his relationship with them. The Alabama head coach said that Davis was a great motivator and coach that their players would do so well year after year. However, with Davis out of the team, Saban still wished for his ex-assistant coach the best in his future endeavors.

Davis had a $475,000 per year contract as defensive line coach at University of Alabama where it was supposed to expire in 2017. He was first hired in 2007 by Saban but he left in 2010 to become Texas' team defensive line coach for three seasons in 2011-2013, Sporting News wrote. In 2014, he returned to UA in 2014 where the notable defensive lines by his players in 2015 were praised by critics. The Crimson Tide under Davis won the national title last season with 52 sacks.

Davis is recognized as one of the best defensive line coaches and has a reputation for a great recruiter. However, the news of Davis' resignation has put off some valuable players like defensive tackle Marvin Wilson from Alabama, Campus Insiders noted. Tosh Lupoi could replace Davis as Alabama's assistant coach. Lupoi has had some defensive line coaching experience at Washington and Cal before he joined his current team, NBC Sports explained.
