Lou Sossamon, 94, was a football linebacker and center for the South Carolina Gamecocks in the 1940s. Sossamon engaged in professional football with the New York Yankees after that. The university's first All-American footballer scored a touchdown during the South Carolina's Garnet & Black spring game on Saturday in Columbia.

More than a hundred former Gamecock footballers attended the game. The game was won by the Garnet squad, 26-21, CBS Sports reports. Watch Sossamon's winning moment below:

According to The State, Sossamon's touchdown happened during the second play of the alumni game. He walked to the end zone with Corey Jenkins. Sossamon was supported by his friends and teammates. Both Garnet and Black squad members celebrated with Sossamon as he scored the first touchdown of the game and the second touchdown of his football career, Fox Sports notes.

"It was the second touchdown in my career in football. I scored one touchdown when I was playing for the New York Yankees team," Sossamon said as reported by the outlet. "When I scored that one, I went over the goal line and threw the ball down. The coach said go back and center the ball. So I had to go back and center the ball."

The alumni game was created by new Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp and USC Association of Lettermen President Moe Brown. Muschamp aims for the game as a way for present players to interact with the older ones. It is also intended for the old gen players to feel welcome when they visit.
