Police are seeking one suspect in a shooting at Delaware State University (DSU) that left three people injured Saturday night.

According to the Wilmington News Journal, the three people injured in the shooting were taken to Kent General Hospital and were in stable condition Saturday night. The shooting, reported to police at 8 p.m., took place at an officially recognized fraternity and sorority cookout.

There was another report of shots being fired shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, but no one was reported injured in that instance. The second alert from the school also had a description of the suspect: a five-foot-11 black man with short dreadlocks who was wearing a tan and blue shirt and who drove a dark-colored four-door car.

Carlos Holmes, a DSU spokesman, told the Journal the shooting took place at the school's annual Field Day picnic. It is not specifically known how many students were present, but the newspaper estimated the total was in the thousands.

"It looks like this happened in the middle of it," Holmes said. "We've directed our students to get into their dormitories and stay there, and we've directed outsiders to get off of our campus at this point."

Students who live on campus were told to go to their rooms and try to stay there, while visitors were encouraged to go home.

"The student residential population has been directed to stay in their residential halls. Non-DSU individuals are being directed off-campus," DSU President Larry Williams said in a statement. "This is currently an active investigation. No arrest(s) have been made as of 11 p.m. on April 18. The safety of our students continues to be paramount and our police will aggressively continue their investigation until an arrest or arrests are made in this shooting incident. DSU campus police are the lead agency investigating the incident. The Dover Police Department, Delaware State Police and other agencies are providing assistance."
