Iowa State University (ISU) head basketball coach Fred Hoiberg will need a few weeks' rest to recover from successful open-heart surgery.

ISU's athletic department announced in a news release Friday that Dr. Rakesh Suri successfully performed the surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Hoiberg needed to have his aortic valve replaced.

"Everything went very well," Suri said in the release. "The operation was a success and Mr. Hoiberg is in recovery and doing very well himself."

The expected recovery time is four to six weeks.

"The Hoiberg family would like to thank the many individuals who have prayed for Fred and shared their support as well as the medical staff at the Mayo Clinic," ISU said in their statement.

Hoiberg 115-56 at Iowa State and has led the Cyclones to back-to-back Big 12 Tournament titles. This season ended in disappointment for Iowa State, as the 25-9 Cyclones went into the NCAA Tournament a three-seed and lost to 14-seed UAB in the first round.

Hoiberg's name is now prominently featured in the offseason basketball coaching rumor mill. Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski learned the NBA's Denver Nuggets will target Hoiberg and Florida's Billy Donovan among potential candidates to helm their team next season.
