Florida State has suspended quarterback Jameis Winston for the entire game against Clemson Saturday pending investigation into allegations of verbal abuse.

Winston, the recipient of last year's Heisman Trophy, was initially suspended for the first half of the game. But the punishment has been upgraded and announced on late Friday night.

The 20-year-old baseball player is facing tough disciplinary actions for standing on a table, shouting a vulgar phrase at the student union and making "offensive" and rude comments about women. He is also accused of mimicking an Internet meme making the rounds on college campuses.

Along with the suspension, the quarterback will also be subjected to internal discipline.

"We're in charge. It's our team. That's what we thought. We went with the consequences and we're ready to move on," Coach Jimbo Fisher said after the half-game suspension, after practice Thursday and said, Fox Sports reports.

Reflecting on his inappropriate comments, Winston said Wednesday, "I have to tone it down."

This is not the first time Winston's off-field behaviour has come into question. Winston, who led Florida State to the national title, was accused of sexual assault last year and stealing $32.72 worth of crab legs from a local grocery store in April this year. The player participated in 20 hours of community service to get rid of criminal charges. He was also suspended by the baseball team for three games.

Before the commencement of the football season, Winston said that he had mellowed down, learned and understood that he needed to be more cautious in his personal life.
