The Berklee College of Music has launched the school's first graduate programs on its Boston campus, beginning fall 2015.

Berklee president Roger H. Brown said that the school is expanding graduate programs with new degree programs - Master of Arts in Music Therapy or a Master of Music in Contemporary Performance.

"Many students come to Berklee having already completed an undergraduate degree and we believe students' interest in these two programs will be quite strong, particularly given the leaders shaping these programs," Brown in a statement.

The five-semester Music Therapy degree will be taught by chair of the Music Therapy Department, Dr. Suzanne Hanser.

Students enrolled in the program will learn about music's healing benefits, challenging healthcare environments and the incorporation of innovative and effective research approaches to music therapy. Plus, it provides advanced instruction to be equipped with holistic approach to treating patients and skills required to work within the healthcare system.

The program involves 20 students and features online courses, three weekend symposia, meetings to present and share ideas, interactions with local experts and visits to clinical settings.

On the other hand, Grammy Award-winning pianist and alumni Danilo Perez will be responsible for the Contemporary Performance degree. The course that focuses on enhancing performers' entrepreneurship features private lessons and ensembles among others.

"Berklee's Master of Music in Contemporary Performance educates trailblazers who will go on to lead their own projects, setting students up for sustainable careers while pursuing their passion for music," said Matt Marvuglio, dean of the Professional Performance Division.

Application and tuition details will be available in summer 2014.
