The enduring crisis in Ukraine, Syria and Iraq has taken away President Barack Obama's focus from the national front. This might have been one of the causes of his poor performance at a recent national poll.

A Quinnipiac University National Poll found Obama to be the country's worst President since WWII. About 33 percent of American voters think that the two-time President gave the poorest performance when compared to his counterparts.

Right behind the first black president of the United States is his predecessor, George W. Bush, with 28 percent of the votes.

"Over the span of 69 years of American history and 12 presidencies, President Barack Obama finds himself with President George W. Bush at the bottom of the popularity barrel," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Poll, in a statement. "Would Mitt have been a better fit? More voters in hindsight say yes."

President Obama's approval rating has plunged in recent months for failing to reach agreements with the Congress and facing major debacles in the Supreme Court, Washington Times reports.

The poll, conducted from June 24 to June 30, comprised of 1,446 registered voters across the country.

The poll also found that 45 percent voters felt the country would have been in better hands under GOP nominee Mitt Romney in 2012. However, 38 percent believe otherwise.

Among other findings of the poll, respondents did favour Obama ahead of Bush for the economy - 37 to 34 percent.

Among the best Presidents to have served the country since WWII, Ronald Reagan comes atop the list with 35 percent followed by Bill Clinton with 18 percent, and John F. Kennedy (15 percent). Obama received just eight percent in the best President's poll.
