Google Gets Serious About Alexa Competition In Europe, Launches Google Home On UK

The artificial intelligence-powered Google Home is about to make its debut in the U.K. this coming April. The search giant has just announced the release date for Google Home in the UK. Google made the announcement this week.

According to Business Insider, the Google-built smart speaker is finally launching in the UK. The Mountain View-based company made the big announcement on Tuesday, March 28, at an event in London, United Kingdom. The hands-free AI-powered assistant and speaker device, which similar to the ubiquitous Amazon Echo, was first introduced in October 2016, but at that time, it was initially made available to the US consumers only.

The launch of Google Home in the UK is the latest sign in the new arms race that currently being waged by the tech giants, which include Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. Google Home is a smart home speaker that is powered by the voice-activated Google Assistant and was originally launched to rival Amazon Echo in the hotly contested smart home market. The goal is simple, to make Google Home the central hub for managing the home's connected devices.

Additionally, the Google Home will be powered by Google's search engine and can deliver news briefs from BBC, the Financial Times, the Sun, the Guardian, Huffington Post, Sky News, Sky Sports and more. Aside from delivering global news, the smart device can also answer questions based on interests, the weather, traffic, sports, finance, local businesses and more. As for the product availability and pricing, the Google Home will go on sale in in the Google Store this coming April 6. It will cost British consumers around £129.

In addition to Google Home, the search company is launching its own Wifi service to combat disruptive wireless connections. The newly introduced Google WiFi has been designed to replace a traditional router and will allow users to have uninterrupted wifi service in all parts of their home.

According to The Verge, Google Wifi uses a mesh network that connects individual Wifi points together to give the house a better coverage. That product comes with some sort of parent control app that would allow users to pause WiFi connection on some devices Google Wifi is slated to on sale for £129. There's also a two pack that would be made available in the Google Store for £2,299.
