iOS 10.3 Public Beta 2 Rolls Out To iPhone, iPad; Winning Features Like ‘Find My AirPods’ Included

By

The Apple iOS 10.3 second public beta version has begun rolling out to the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch for those who have signed up for free in the Beta Software Program of Apple. Winning features of the beta version includes "Find My AirPods," an updated Siri and podcast apps widget to name a few.

It is the second time that Apple has rolled out the beta version of the latest iOS 10.3. The update is available for free for those who like to try out the latest iOS or macOS without paying $99 dollars for the developers program.

However, there is a risk that comes with getting the software for free for it will most likely still have bugs. Nonetheless, the beta testing is crucial for Apple to make a stable build from beta testers' feedback before the OS can be released to the public. Incidentally, iOS 10.3 is expected to arrive this spring.

In the meantime, the latest beta version of the iOS 10.3 brings bug fixes and performance improvements. This also includes the "Find My AirPods" feature, which helps users locate their missing earbuds. Last year, the Apple AirPods have been launched as part of Apple's vision of a wireless future. The $159 wireless earbuds are often misplaced and consumers have to pay a hefty price for its replacement.

The newest feature now helps users locate their missing earbuds. The technology does not use GPS since there is no built-in locator on the earbuds. "Find My Airpods" feature only indicates the last place they have been used within the Bluetooth range of any device using iOS in their iCloud account, Wall Street Journal reported. This discounts the Apple Watch which runs on WatchOS.

Other features in the free version include Siri learning cricket scores, Safari supporting Reduced Motion preference in web apps, a more prominent user security section in Settings, new Apple File System and podcast apps widgets. An important feature for developers includes the In-Apps rating, where users are asked to give ratings while using the app and skipping the App or Mac App store, according to 9to5Mac.

CarPlay is now able to quickly access the last three used apps for fast toggling without the need to open the Home screen. It can also access albums from songs in Music and gets a new Up Next screen. The 3D Touch forecast has also been added to the weather data in Maps.
