The Nokia P1 is tipped to impress with displays from Sharp, iPhone-standard technology from Foxconn and a big comeback initiated by HMD Global. However with massive storage and high-end fixings pushed into Nokia's comeback device, prices could soar and could impact sales of the P1 in global markets.

HMD Global has owned the rights to the Nokia brand with inputs still coming from the Nokia team. The Finnish company has licensed the manufacture of the Nokia P1 and other Nokia devices to a Foxconn subsidiary, the FIH Mobile.

Foxconn, on the other hand, has acquired Sharp allowing Nokia to access the technology for the Nokia P1 display and camera. In fact, earlier leaks have shown the Sharp Aquos Xx3 as the soon-to-be unveiled Nokia P1.

HMD Global has made no official announcements regarding the Nokia P1, other than disclosing its plans to unveil several Nokia branded phones in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. This may include the Nokia 6, which made an impressive debut in China with its highly successful flash sale.

Nokia 6 was sold out in just under a minute during its first flash sale in China last Jan, 19, 2017. Pre-registration before the actual sale date has reached more than 1 million.

This is a good start for a comeback for the Nokia phones, which HMD Global may replicate with its flagship device, the Nokia P1. In fact, the Nokia P1 is poised to be the iPhone of Android phones with its high-end fixings and functionality rolled out hard into its design.

According to ET Telecom, Nokia has officially confirmed that its flagship device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. Nokia P1 will be one of the few to have the premium chipset, which puts it alongside other flagship devices of Apple and Samsung.

The Nokia P1 will also have a 5.3-inch IGZO display, with a full or Quad HD screen resolution and 1080x1920 ppi. It will come in two variants with varying internal storage, color options and different enclosing materials.

The first model of the Nokia P1 comes with a Gorilla Glass 5 enclosure and metal fame with 128GB internal storage. The second model will have a full ceramic enclosure with 256GB built-in memory, similar to the iPhone 7 Plus in Jet Black.

The Nokia P1 will have the 22.6MP camera of the Sharp Aquos Xx3. This includes features like digital zoom, AF, OIS and f/1.9 with 4K video recording.

Moreover, a report from Worket, a Russian publication, revealed that the Nokia P1 will retail starting at $800 for the 128GB variant and $950 for the 256Gb variant, Slash Gear reported. The steep price may be the only drawback to an otherwise impressive comeback phone.
