‘Fantastic Beasts’ Director Fears Burden of 5 Part Prequel; Attached to ‘Harry Potter’ But Not New Franchise? [VIDEO]

Director David Yates of the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" finds the five part prequel of the new series as overwhelming, knowing that he will have to work non-stop and also deal with the expectations of very critical fans. Yates directed four Harry Potter films, to which he admits he feels greatly territorial, so why not commit to J.K. Rowling's newest movie series?

Yates, in an interview with Hollywood Reporter during the New York premiere of the movie last week, expressed his pleasure on working with the exemplary cast and crew of "Fantastic Beasts" and the versatility of Rowling in storytelling. Yet, he still expressed his uncertainty of committing to the entire five part series, saying that he will weigh his options "one movie at a time."

The director calls it a "massive undertaking" since Rowling herself admitted that the newest franchise can only be told in no less than five movies. This means that Yates will have to finish all five films in a span of eight years.

Yates also talked about Rowling's distinct talent of producing new twists while making sure to balance light narrative with dark themes. Producers, David Heyman and Steve Kloves, are also on hand to put inputs when needed.

Meanwhile, J.K. Rowling is fully committed to doing the screenplay for the remaining four movies of the "Fantastic Beasts" franchise. In fact, Rowling has already completed the second movie, needing only a few tweaks and minor revisions as reported by Collider.

The movie "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" heavily relies on Rowling's narrative and Yate's visions in making the movie as close to its source material as ever while hoping to achieve the "Harry Potter" fame. As to whether the movie is able to satsify the expectations of the fans or not will soon be revealed for "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" hits the theaters this coming Friday, Nov. 18.
