Rio Olympics 2016 Soccer Games Results Where To Watch: Sweden vs Germany For Gold Medal; Canada vs Brazil for Bronze Medal

By

Germany's women's soccer team has now a chance for the gold medal for the first time at the Rio Olympics 2016, after defeating Canada 2-0 in their semifinal matchup.

The 21st-minute penalty kick of the German midfielder Melanie Behringer and the goal of Sara Dabritz just before the hour mark have Germany up 2-0 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Germany and Canada have combined for the last four bronze medals, in which Canada has won in 2012 and the Germans in - 2000, 2004, 2008, but neither of the two nations has ever played for the gold medal, based on the report of Sports Illustrated.

Canada had defeated Germany in the group stage, but that result turned out the other way around on Tuesday. The German's first goal was credited to Kadeisha Buchanan's foul. And the Germany women's soccer team withstood some Canadian pressure to hold on for the victory.

On the other hand, Marta Vieira da Silva (Brazil) and Christine Sinclair (Canada) have been the faces of their respective national teams for a decade, and both superstars were having the same intention to help their soccer team claim a first-ever Olympic gold in Rio Olympics 2016.

But, their hard work and perseverance will just take home the bronze medal, while the other will go home empty-handed in what could be their team's final Olympic Games, MlLS Soccer reported.

However, losing the semifinal match will do nothing to compromise the legacy of either Sinclair or Marta, as both of these star players have over 100 goals for their countries, and they are largely responsible for bringing their respective women's soccer teams to relevance in their home nations.

Canada vs Brazil bronze medal match at the Arena Corinthians, Sao Paulo, Brazil - on Friday, August 19, 12 pm ET.

Germany and Sweden will play for a gold medal on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
