'Divergent: Ascendant' As TV Series To Pick-Up 'Allegiant' Box Office Sales? Tris Shailene Woodley Still Undecided

By

Following "Divergent" franchise's third installment "Allegiant" tumbling at the box office opening to just $29 million, Lionsgate began to rethink its strategy for the fourth "Divergent" film to pick-up sales.

Lionsgate is said to finalize the "Divergent" storyline as a standalone TV series involving the current cast, while introducing a new cast, who will continue the series. "Divergent" star Shailene Woodley, who starred in the first three movies has not given her confirmation whether or not she will be joining the cast of the TV version of "The Divergent Series: Ascendant."

The "Divergent" franchise has been reported to be reconfigured as a TV movie and positioned as a spinoff series for its finale "Ascendant." "The Divergent Series: Ascendant" is being planned to be in the same post-apocalyptic setting, with Lionsgate TV taking the reins on the "Divergent" production.

The "Divergent" star, Woodley has been approached to join "The Divergent Series: Ascendant," however, everything is still to be determined, with the network being her major consideration, US Weekly reported. Woodley has already made her move to the small screen with "Big Little Lies," HBO's upcoming series.

Meanwhile, other "Divergent" stars who are signed on for the "Divergent" fourth chapter have not received a word about "The Divergent Series: Ascendant." One of the "Divergent" star representative said that the producers have not come to them to discuss deals, but if they think they can skimp on actors' options, they can think again.

The "Divergent" stars' representative said that they expect serious negotiations for their clients, but some say it may set a dangerous pattern if actors simply go along with a move from film to TV. Some sources say Lionsgate had an option for all of the main actors for the fourth and final film, but the new arrangement would involve complete renegotiations of their contracts.

The "Divergent" movie finale "Ascendant," was previously dated for release on June 9, 2017, The Sydney Morning Herald reported. Watch the "Alegiant" official trailer for a refresh of the series.
