The Atlantic Coast Conference issued Grayson Allen a "reprimand" for tripping an opposing player toward the end of Duke's game Thursday against Florida State.

With less than six seconds left in the game, Allen was seen on the TV broadcast extending his lack backward to trip Florida State's Xavier Rathan-Mayes. The ACC previously stated it would review the incident and decide if punishment was necessary.

The conference returned its decision a day later, opting not to suspend Allen but rather give him a public reprimand. Allen stated after the game he and Rathan-Mayes played a physical game and that getting tangled up led to him falling to the floor.

"The reprimand was issued following the review of the game by the league office, and is based on Allen's involvement in the tripping of Florida State's Xavier Rathan-Mayes at the end of the game," the conference said in its statement. "The ACC considers the matter closed and will have no further comment." 

Allen was jeered harshly during Duke's road loss to Pittsburgh, ESPN reported, but he also acknowledged afterward he made a mistake in regards to tripping Rathan-Mayes. He was previously seen on a TV broadcast tripping a Louisville player earlier in the month.

"It's just being smart," Allen said. "I've had to be smart all season. Obviously, I made a mistake, and I messed up."

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski told reporters he spoke to Allen after the Florida State, apologized to the opposing coach, and concluded the ACC acted fairly in its decision on the matter.

"I would not suspend any player for what would be a flagrant 1," Krzyzewski said. "What he got was the stiffest reprimand a player in our conference has gotten this year. I thought the [ACC] took action, and you've got to move on. The world doesn't move on, because it's Duke."
