Game of Thrones Season 6: What We Know

By

The sixth season of HBO's massive hit drama series, "Game of Thrones," is only a matter of months away and despite all the leaked information and teases, there is still a lot we don't know.

So until we get something more substantial like a trailer or some set photos, let's take inventory of what we do know, leaving speculation and the spoilery stuff out of it.

1.     Filming is done and Watchers on the Wall collected photos from the final days on set as well as the wrap party for cast and crew. No one can tell us very much, but they're all excited for us to see the new season.

2.     There will be a host of new characters all over Westeros and beyond. Head over to Watchers on the Wall for the full rundown, but here are the highlights.

  • Three new Greyjoys: Euron, Aeron, and (probably) Victarion
  • Northern lords who may or may not be Stark loyalists
  • Samwell Tarly's family: his father Randyll, brother Dickon, mother Melessa, and sister Talla
  • Dothraki horselords Daenerys will be spending some time with
  • Riverlands outlaws who will cross paths with Ian McShane's character

3.     We've probably not seen the last of Jon Snow. The season six poster features everyone's favorite bastard with some blood on his face, but notably not on his back bleeding out slowly. The only catch is we can't see his eyes, or anything around him.

4.     "The ink is dry." We got to hear some new lines from Max von Sydow (Three-eyed Raven) and Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Bran), but the season six teaser revealed no new footage. But the teaser also indicates Bran will be exploring his greenseer abilities under the Three-eyed Raven's tutelage, which will likely open the door for flashbacks.

5.     Speaking of that Bran fellow, here is what he'll look like next season, courtesy of EW.com. While he was honing his psychic powers, Bran got a haircut and went through a growth spurt.

6.     Dan Weiss and David Benioff, the show's creators, heard the criticisms of how certain episodes handled sexual violence and they plan to make changes going forward. Jeremy Podeswa, a director for the show, told Forbes Weiss and Benioff don't plan to dial down the brutality depicted on Thrones, but will do things differently.

Bonus! Because 7 is an important number in Westeros: We may have seen the last of Tycho Nestoris, the mysterious banker at the Iron Bank of Braavos. Mark Gatiss told EW.com he's not in season six and doesn't know his status for the following season. Nestoris certainly isn't vital for the show to move forward, but he's had scenes with multiple main characters over the past two seasons. And as Tywin Lannister was fond of reminding everyone, wars are expensive.
