Just after releasing iOS 8, Apple had to axe its first software update because customers were saying they could not make calls or use the Touch ID feature.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple pulled the iOS 8.0.1 software update only a matter of hours after letting it go live. Apple has also had to deal with iPhone 6 customers posting videos of how easy it is to bend the supersized, super-thin handset, especially from accidentally sitting on it.

"We have received reports of an issue with the iOS 8.0.1 update. We are actively investigating these reports and will provide information as quickly as we can. In the meantime we have pulled back the iOS 8.0.1 update," Apple said in a statement upon taking down the update.

As of Tuesday, one week since iOS 8's release, the download rate for the new mobile operating system was just less than 50 percent, Apple Insider reported. The new iOS' download rate is just behind iOS 7's mark of 52 percent through one week.

Apple would not say how many customers were affected by the iOS 8.0.1 update glitch.

In a statement issued on their support page Thursday, Apple said iOS 8.0.2 is on the way soon.

"We have a workaround for you if you have an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and you lost cellular service and Touch ID functionality today after updating to iOS 8.0.1. You can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes by following the instructions below. We are also preparing iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it's ready in the next few days," read the statement.

If you downloaded iOS 8.0.1, you can downgrade back to the fresh, un-updated version of the operating system and CNET has an in-depth guide to do so.
