Despite the need for more women in STEM-related industries, the fact remains that most of them are still dominated by male. What more, men earn more than their female counterparts who have the same qualifications. However, it's not at all dire because there are still colleges whose programs make female STEM students flourish.
Below are five colleges whose female STEM students earn more than their counterparts in an average school with a similar profile. The data came from the Department of Education and analyzed by Jonathan Rothwell of the Brookings Institution.
Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Allied Health Sciences
Formerly known as the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, the college has undergraduate and graduate programs in pharmacy, optometry, nursing, dental hygiene, and physical therapy. According to the Brookings analysis, MCPHS female STEM graduates earn 70.3 percent more than their colleagues in similar fields.
Stevens Institute of Technology
Stevens Institute of Technology is a private research university located in Hoboken, New Jersey. It offers both graduate and undergraduate degrees in science, engineering, and business. Stevens Institute's engineering program ranks 75 in the US News ranking.
Albany College of Pharmacy
Albany College of Pharmacy is a private institution which has one of the best health care programs in the nation. Some of its most popular majors include pharmacy, clinical laboratory, and microbiology and immunology. The student-teacher ratio of Albany is 9:1. According to Brookings, female STEM students of Albany College of Pharmacy earn 85 percent more than their counterparts after graduation.
Babson College in Boston is a champion when it comes to gender equality in both the workplace and schools. Its Center for Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership provides tools and skills for women to help them start their business. Babson College graduates earn 50.3 percent higher than other female STEM graduates.
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology or RHIT is one of the top-ranked engineering colleges in the nation. This small, private institution specializes in science, mathematics, and engineering.
