Blizzard ending support for games for XP and Vista Systems > Coming updates for Blizzard games will no longer work with XP and Vista

Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III, Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm will lose game support by the end of the year for those still playing the games on Windows XP and Vista.

There might be not many people still playing said games on XP and Vista systems, however, the company announced on its forums that it is discontinuing games support for those running the games on XP and Vista, according to Blizzard.

Blizzard Entertainment said that once the operating systems are no longer supported, said games mentioned above would no longer work or run on the older XP and Vista OS. It is, therefore, the recommendation of the company for the user to upgrade to a newer OS starting from Windows 7 up.

The changes are to be implemented on a staggered schedule and Blizzard Entertainment said it would post notices when each game will be accorded the change. Accordingly, Blizzard will be releasing updates for its games; along with these updates is the ability to kill off the game running on XP and Vista.

Windows XP and Vista have been dropped from Microsoft's support back in 2009 and 2012 respectively, but since a decent portion of their players is still on the old OS, Blizzard continued providing game support. Three new OS since, and a vast majority have already upgraded to new platforms, Blizzard thinks it is time to cease its support.

This means, for those who would still want to play Blizzard games but are still on old OS's, it is due for an OS upgrade, according to Digital Trends. Many have commended Blizzard's move albeit doing it so late.

Blizzard released "Overwatch" without support for both XP and Vista incurring no untoward incident. For the move, users cite those who are still on the old OS's, they are no longer running an operating system but running a security risk.
