The University of Chicago was recently rated as the most intellectually diverse top university by the Heterodox Academy Guide to Colleges, composed of scholars campaigning for respect in the differences of opinions.

150 universities listed in U.S. News as well as World Report, are rated in terms of social sciences on their openness for exchanges of ideas in the form of debates and group discussions.

Heterodox Academy claims that their organization is patronized by social scientists, natural scientists for physical studies, humanists, and other scholars for academic excellence.

Many are not surprised with the University of Chicago's top position gaining a total score of 93.75. Heterodox noted University of Chicago's freedom of speech policies, says Chicago Maroon.

Heterodox Academy condemns elite educational establishments that imposed uniform beliefs to be accepted. Ideas cannot be justified, instead, it must be debated upon to weigh the better options.

They explained that in a controlled environment students are not inspired to know "how to think". There's nothing to argue about if their passion is already suppressed, to begin with.

If not challenged by the situations that they are in, students cannot display their initiative to come up with solutions to problems. This is the perhaps the reason why most elite universities are ranked poorly.

Right after the University of Chicago, the rest of the universities received relatively very low scores from 50 down. Does this mean that most schools in America are run with a close mind?

Ivy League schools somewhat excel in this area. But Princeton survived among the uniformly-tamed breeds. It scored 62.5, occupying the third place with another university.

While Yale scored only 12.5 after series of race protests that result to the resignation of two faculty members, who defended their rights to wear obnoxious costumes during Halloween - Harvard plunged into the143rd place scoring only 6.25, according to Washington Times.
