University of California - Berkeley has recently been deemed as one of the best schools in the U.S. according to U.S. News. The school is deemed as the top national public university. Its Los Angeles campus is tied in second place with the University of Virginia. The University of Michigan is at fourth place while the University of North Carolina finished the top five.

In WSJ's list of the college and universities with the most diversity on its campuses, systems such as the City University of New York and the California State University are among the leaders in supporting students and staff from various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds across the nation. Urban public schools in California also have diverse student bodies, each having a large proportion of non-native students. The University of California - Irvine got the eighth spot for environment while UCLA got 10th place.
