iPhone 7 & iPhone 7 Plus News: Apple Begins Rolling Out Unlocked, SIM-Free Devices In The US [VIDEO]

By

Apple has started rolling out its SIM-free version of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus from its online store in America, allowing individuals to purchase an unlocked iPhone without choosing a carrier. Customers can now choose to purchase the SIM-free version of the devices at full retail price.

The iPhone 7 Plus SIM-free version in all shipping lists estimated time of arrival within three to four weeks, with the exception of the Jet Black SIM-free iPhone 7 Plus that lists an estimated six to eight weeks' time of arrival.

For the iPhone 7, SIM-free models in Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, and Black feature's estimated delivery is from Oct. 17 to Oct. 19, while the Jet Black models of the iPhone 7 ships in three to five weeks, Mac Rumors reported.

Base prices for both SIM-free smartphones are the same as those for handsets tied to U.S. carriers. With iPhone 7 models starting price at $649 for 32GB of storage, $749 for the 128GB and $849 for 256GB. While the larger iPhone 7 Plus models start at $769 for the 32 gigabyte tier, the device's levels up to $869 and $969 for 128GB and 256GB of storage, respectively, Apple Insider reported.

However, the Cupertino-based tech company made it known that the SIM-free models will work with any phone carrier, and have full support for the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and GSM networks, just like the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus smartphones available from Verizon or Sprint. Both iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices from T-Mobile and AT&T do not support CDMA networks, and are not compatible with all carriers.

SIM-free models are not yet up for grabs for in-store pickup from the online store, but should be available soon as supplies improve. Retail stores will also likely start offering SIM-free models in the next few days. International roaming support is also offered, big ups to the smartphone's multi-band LTE radio.
