Group D is one of the most difficult in this year's 2014 World Cup tournament, especially for Costa Rica. Out of the eight teams that have ever won the World Cup, Group D contains three of them: Uruguay, England and Italy, The Christian Post reported.
Despite the stiff competition, Costa Rica wants to let the World Cup-winning teams in their group know they "have a strong side that can cause problems for any team on their day," The Christian Post reported.
"We respect England, Italy, and Uruguay," Costa Rica's national soccer team coach Jorge Luis Pinto said. "But they should know we can play football too."
However, Costa Rica has only won one game in five since the turn of the year, The Independent reported. And in their last World Cup in 2006, they lost every single game.
Costa Rica has no Premier League players in their squad, while Uruguay has three: Luis Suarez of Liverpool, Diego Lugano of West Brom and Gaston Ramirez of Southampton.
Costa Rica is not expected to win this game, especially since it has failed to beat Uruguay in eight attempts; they have lost six times, and drawn twice.
"We will play without fear," Pinto said. "We face three world champions and we can take them all on. What we feel is joy and motivation."
According to FIFA.com, the head referee will be Felix Brych. Two fellow Germans and one Peruvian will serve as his three assistants.
According to Weather.com, the city of Fortaleza is expected to be warm and mostly cloudy.
