A lot of people are speculating that natural disasters are getting more frequent lately due to climate change. Many of our religious brothers and sisters also believe that it is the completion of the Bible prophesies.

Whatever the rationale behind may be of the growing number of catastrophic calamities, we are only left with one option. And that is to be prepared at all times.

There are 5 deadliest natural disasters recorded in U.S. history: The Galveston Storm of 1900, the San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906, the Johnstown Flood of 1889, the Peshtigo Fire of 1871, and the Hurricane Maria of 2017.

This week, heavy winds have set the mountain areas of California on fire. The recent fire which started in Sonoma County is still uncontained and has caused hundreds of thousands to flee their homes.

Earthquakes, tsunamis, fires, storms, tornadoes - you name it! We all have to prepare for these and evacuate to protect our precious lives. Desperate times, or so they say, call for equally desperate measures.

So here is a list of what we need to bring in case of emergency evacuation amidst these terrifying natural disasters:

1.     Water - One gallon of water per person per day for at least 3 days

2.     Food - At least a three-day supply of non-perishable, ready-to-eat food

3.     Battery-powered or hand-crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert

4.     Flashlight with fresh batteries

5.     First aid kit with medicines for fever, headache, nausea, diarrhea and other common illness

6.     Spare batteries

7.     Whistle (to be used to call for help when speaking is not an option)

8.     Dust mask (to filter out contaminated air) and plastic sheets and duct tape (to protect stuff)

9.     Moist towels, garbage bags, and plastic ties for personal sanitation

10.   Wrench or pliers (to be used in turning off utilities)

11.   Manual can opener for food

12.   Local area maps

13.   Mobile phone with chargers and a backup battery for communication

14.   Infant formula, bottles, diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream if you have a baby or toddler

15.   Pet food and extra water for your pet

16.   Cash or traveler's checks

17.   Important family documents such as copies of insurance policies, identification and bank account records saved electronically or in a waterproof, portable container

18.   Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person

19.   Complete change of clothing appropriate for your climate and sturdy shoes

20.   Household chlorine bleach and medicine dropper to disinfect water

21.   A small and portable fire extinguisher if possible

22.   Matches sealed off in a waterproof container

23.   Feminine supplies and personal hygiene items

24.   Mess kits, paper cups, plates, paper towels and plastic utensils

25.   Paper and pencil

These items must be stored in airtight and waterproof plastic bags. Place this entire disaster emergency supplies kit in an easy-to-carry plastic box or a large duffel bag.

You do not know when and where tragedy strikes, so it is important to prepare these emergency supplies at home, at work and inside your vehicle.

Make sure that you are updated about the rescue locations and evacuation centers designated by the government, so you know where to go when the time comes. Your readiness will ensure your safety.
