After much prodding from gamers and fans alike, Niantic will finally, add content to "Pokémon Go" this week.

Niantic is slated to update "Pokémon Go" with a massive roll out of 80+ new Gen 2 Pokémon by the end of this week. The 80+ Pokémon all hail from the Johto region, and while there may be some Gen 2 Pokémon released in earlier events, this is the biggest release since the game's launch.

It is hoped that there would be a resurgence of interest to "Pokémon Go" after the update for the game it seems has fallen out of favor with many, according to Forbes. John Hanke, founder, and CEO of Niantic, Inc., in a statement, said Niantic was hard at work to produce the additional Pokémon on hopes to recapture the interest of the passionate global community.

In addition, Hanke said, with "Pokémon Go" being a live experience, they will continue supporting and evolving the game in interesting ways for years to come. Players can expect new gameplay features, live events and more Pokémon to discover, he said.

The coming Gen 2 update of "Pokémon Go" includes a reworked encounter/capture system; likewise, new items will be needed for Pokémon evolution. There will also be new berries and customization items for trainers. No matter how Niantic works all these out in the current setup, it is expected the update will bring in revenue for the company, just the same.

As stated above, Pokémon evolution in Gen 2 will need special evolution items. These can be acquired through Pokéstops to evolve the Gen 1 creatures into their Gen 2 counterparts. At this stage, it is prudent to stockpile candies from existing Pokémon, that way; they can easily be powered up one they have evolved.

Consider the following Pokémon to collect or stockpile before "Pokémon Go" Gen 2 update drops: Evee evolves to Espeon and Umbra, Slowpoke to Slowking, Seadra evolves into Kindra, Zbat to Crobat, Chansey evolves into Blissey, Gloom evolves Bellossom. Onix evolves into Steelix, Poliwhirl evolves into Politoed, Scyther evolves into Scizor and Porygon evolves into Porygon 2, Kotaku reported.
