"Rocket League" is getting PS4 Pro support as announced by game developer Psyonix on Valentine's Day.

"Rocket League," a vehicle-based soccer game will be updated on February 21 that would also feature a higher resolution of the game, among other things. Psyonix community manager Devin Connors said in a PlayStation Blog post that the new update would allow the game to run at 1080p on a standard PS4 and run at 4K resolution on PS4 Pro at 60 frames per second in all arenas for single and two-player split-screen modes. Three to four player slit-screen plays would also benefit with 60 FPS in most arenas at the same resolutions, he said.

According to Gamespot, Psyonix was studying the possibility of a PS4 Pro patch, but never really followed through coming up with one for "Rocket League." The patch is necessary to give the game additional horsepower, as well as, exploit new capabilities being offered by the PS4 Pro's latest 4.50-firmware update.

The PS4 Pro's firmware update introduces a new feature called Boost Mode, which Sony says allows for smoother gameplay on some PS4 games that have not received PS4 patches. Having the PS4 Pro patch, "Rocket League" it would be expected for the game to no longer dip in frame rate.

If performance improvement in "Project Cars" is to be used as a gauge, it showed a 35-38 percent increase in frame rate with the PS4 Pro patch. Such levels may also be gained by "Rocket League" and with better resolution to boot at its targeted 60 FPS.

Furthermore, "Rocket League's" update also includes other features that include Hot Wheels premium DLC cars. It also features Hot Wheels-themed post match item drops, a player's choice crate loaded with some favorite community items voted on by fans of the game. The update also incorporated performance optimizations and bug fixes.

Psyonix noted that these are just the first of many improvements and content updates it has planned for "Rocket League" in 2017.
